Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television reporter, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She served on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including weapons control, the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell went on numerous trips together with the president Reagan to meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
